Things We’re Learning Along the Way: Part 1
Starting a Balloon Business & Figuring It Out As We Go
When we first started our balloon décor business, we knew we loved being creative and making events feel special — but we quickly realized there’s so much more that goes into this business than just balloons.
We’re still learning every single day, and honestly, that’s part of the journey. We definitely don’t have everything figured out yet, but we wanted to share a few things we’re learning as beginners building a balloon business from the ground up.
1. Balloon Decorating Takes More Time Than People Think
One of the biggest things we’ve learned is that balloon décor is very time-consuming, like any art form. What looks simple in a photo can actually take hours of prep, setup, organizing, creating a color palette, inflating balloons, and building designs.
In the beginning, we underestimated how many balloons would be needed and how long setups would take — especially for larger installs. We’re learning how important it is to give ourselves extra time and not rush the creative process — and it doesn’t take as many balloons as one might think it would for a smaller installation.
2. Every Setup Teaches Us Something New
No matter how much planning we do, every event comes with something unexpected. Sometimes it’s weather, sometimes it’s setup space, and sometimes it’s figuring out the best way to bring a design to life.
We’re learning that experience and self-evaluation are two of the best teachers in this business. Each setup helps us improve and build more confidence for our next event.
3. Outdoor Events Are a Whole Different Challenge
Outdoor balloon installations sounded simple at first… until we actually installed our first one. Wind, heat, sunlight, and uneven ground can completely change your setup plans.
We’re learning to come prepared with extra supplies, backup ideas, and a little patience.
4. We Don’t Have to Be Perfect to Start a Balloon Décor Business
This is probably the biggest lesson we’re learning right now. In the beginning, it’s easy to compare yourself to experienced balloon artists and feel like you’re behind or doubt your abilities.
But we’ve realized you don’t have to know everything before you start. You learn by doing, making mistakes, improving, being patient, and continuing to show up.
Final Thoughts
We’re still very much beginners, and we’re learning this balloon décor business one event at a time. Some days feel easy, some days feel challenging, but every setup is helping us grow creatively and professionally.
We’re excited to keep learning, growing, and sharing this journey along the way.
Stay tuned for Part 2!
